SUMMARY:Linden Toughman Only 18
DESCRIPTION:In Linden’s version of “So You Think You’re Tough?”(minus the headgear\,boxing gloves\,mouthpieces and as far as we could tell\,protective cups) a young golfer emerged as the Toughman. \nThomas Johnson\,18\,the current Ft.Lewis Amateur Champion and a Linden member shot 78 on Saturday to win this year’s Toughday Competition. \nFormerly known as “Dave’s Ball Buster”this format is identified by a course set-up that can only be described as “heinous”.In Boston they would call it “wicked hahhd”.In Mexico City(or Phoenix\,for that matter)they would say it was muy malo.In downtown Puyallup the boys were calling it various other epithets\,none of which are printable here. \nThe only one left standing from the relentless onslaught of torment was \,in fact \,Old Man Par. \nGranted\, Randy Isaac shot 38 on his outward leg(including a double bogey on 9) and others fared well at times.This was not the norm as witnessed by TK\,who managed to take a 17 on the 9th hole(this demonstration included 13 shots with his putter) and a litany of 10s\,8s and other hole scores in the teens. With the flags teetering on precipices \,greens as hard as the pool tables at Wayne’s(though not as bumpy as Wayne’s) and the crazy long tees \,Par was at a Premium.Only 6 players managed to turn in a score at par or better.Thanks to Thane and his crew for the preparation and to John Mcbride for restoring the pins to more comfortable lodgings at the finish of play.

SUMMARY:Linden Gets Tough on Golfers
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, August 20th Linden Golf and Country Club will be protecting par with all her defense systems! \nIn an effort to make a par score virtually unattainable and therefore test the player’s mental endurance Linden will be holding a “Toughday” tournament. \nThis format will see the Course set-up in the most demanding fashion\, with the tees pushed back and the holes set in precarious spots. \nThe greens will be at (weather permitting) “Major Championship” speedand firmness. \nThis test of golf will be a “complete examination”\, as Bobby Jones once said of the U.S Open set -up at Merion Cricket Club. \nBe advised that ALL players will face the same conditions.  Whining not allowed!!! \nWe expect NO players to shoot a par score for the round.  Special prizes will be awarded to any and all competitors who achieve this feat. \nCost is $10.00…. \nRegular Saturday play schedule remains in effect with a 7:45 shotgun and Open play beginning at Noon.

SUMMARY:3 Club Championships in Two Days!
DESCRIPTION:All three club champions will be crowned on the weekend of August 6-7.  In two days of competition\, beginning on Saturday\, August 6 and finishing on Sunday\, August 7 the Ladies\, Men and Junior Club Championships will be held. \nThis event will be decided by stroke play \,in strict adherence to the USGA Rules of Golf. \nWe will be attempting to identify who are  the club’s best players. \nThis requires a testing \, but fair\, course set-up. Some have called such course set-ups “a complete examination”. \nSign-up sheets are available in all divisions are at the Pro shop. \nCost is $25.00 per player.
